Compare retaining the ergonomic trolley, adapting it, and moving a qualified container between fixed stations. Change the assumptions to see where cost, space and handling diverge.
Planning estimate, not a quotation. SGD excluding GST. Historical September ROM rates and explicit engineering allowances; 15% default contingency. The old 30-day quotation validity has expired. New box dimensions, route distance, labour and equipment quantities are unverified inputs. The 35 kg part weight is the customer's current instruction.
Compare the same project scope
Every option includes transport, 17 station interfaces, assisted part handling, a 1,000-cell ASRS by default, traceability, commissioning and contingency. Existing machines and production cycle times are unchanged. Keeping the current manual system has no new automation CAPEX and is a separate baseline.
Scenario band = 70%–135% of the estimate, not a statistical confidence interval. Five-year TCO is undiscounted; no tax, financing, depreciation or residual value. Labour hours represent task time, not automatically removable headcount.
Change the planning assumptions
Values update immediately and remain in this browser. Existing trolley inventory stays fixed when WIP changes. Any new trolley shells beyond that inventory require a separate quotation. The model does not claim measured factory performance.
Separate queue space from storage space
The rack calculation is a calibrated geometric envelope, not a layout approval. Four storage faces, 5.04 m usable vertical stack, 100 mm pitch allowance, 4.46 m end allowance and 3.68 m combined aisle/end-width allowance reproduce the historic 20 × 8 m FG envelope. Actual crane clearances, access, fire strategy and loading may invalidate it. Queue estimates include a planning circulation factor but exclude machine work areas. ASRS and queue capacities are provisioned concurrently; actual inventory occupation varies.
What each architecture changes
Every cost line, with its basis
H = historical selling-side ROM. E = engineering allowance or scaled historical anchor. No additional sales margin is added. Site-wide fire enclosure, major civil works, production-machine redesign, utility shutdowns, tax and overseas shipping/return-container logistics remain separately quoted scope. Allowance for trolley retirement is included; scrap credits are not assumed. Do not add old all-in AMR packages to this component ledger.
Choose by the constraint that matters
Lowest initial investment
Retain trolleys and phase Hook transport if present interfaces are serviceable. In this illustrative full-scope model, A is less expensive. A pilot can postpone the ASRS commitment.
Compact WIP with preserved presentation
Pilot E: qualify one rigid-base box and two modified stationary trolley docks. Keep the same box ID; retain operator-friendly height and assisted part lifting.
Repeated automatic handoffs
D fits predictable ASRS/conveyor lanes. Adopt it selectively where measured dwell or operator attendance justifies powered docks; avoid pricing every station as identical by default.
Batch transport
MiR600 Shelf Lift / larger AMR can be considered for store-to-buffer milk runs. Quantity per rack is unverified for the larger container. Compare batch fill delay, footprint and individual retrieval before selecting it.
R&D gates before committing the rollout
Measure raw and finished part envelopes, mass at every stage, existing boxes, trolley structure and every aisle / door / turning area.
Prototype a rigid base plus replaceable PP enclosure and protective nest. Verify load paths, CG, retention, contamination and part access.
Trial two ergonomic docks with operators using qualified lifting assistance. Confirm height, reach, tilt, interlocks and recovery.
Time loaded/empty travel, docking, queues, rework and charging; replay peak demand to validate fleet and buffers.
Obtain AMR integrator, container, manipulator and ASRS quotations on the same accepted interface specification.
Run customer-agreed FAT/SAT: no unsafe drop or unwanted release, complete ID reconciliation, qualified docking repeatability, peak throughput and recovery tests.
Control and traceability
Link Part ID → Container ID → optional trolley/carrier ID → station → mission → ASRS location. Scan at load association and every handoff; maintain immutable events, router revision and PASS/HOLD/rework state. A unified box helps identification, but does not itself supply traceability. Reconcile failed scans, blocked docks, lost missions and manual recovery. Only the approved quality state may release FG into FG storage. Mixed raw/WIP/FG storage requires separately authorized segregation rules.

UR30: 30 kg nominal, up to 35 kg under specified conditions. A 35 kg raw part plus any gripper exceeds that enhanced limit; the previous UR30 raw-pick concept is excluded. Downstream lighter parts require a separate payload / reach / risk assessment.
